Don Jazzy explains why he doesn’t let his artists release songs on the same day as Wizkid and Asake

Don Jazzy, the esteemed music executive and CEO of Mavin Records, has revealed that he prohibits his artists from releasing songs or projects on the same day as Wizkid or Asake.
In a podcast interview with Fisayo Fosudo, Jazzy mentioned that releasing music on the same day as these artists could be detrimental.
Wizkid and Asake are two of Nigeria’s most prominent artists in the streaming age.
Don Jazzy explained: “We [Mavin] are transitioning from the traditional Friday release schedule to Wednesdays and Thursdays due to the saturation of Fridays [with other artists’ releases].
“If my artist is scheduled to release a song or project on a Friday and Wizkid or Asake also have releases planned for that day, I will reschedule our release because we don’t want to be overshadowed.”
Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, and Lifesize Teddy are some of the artists under Mavin Records.
In a separate incident, Nigerians have expressed concern after a woman criticized TVC presenter Tope Mark-Odigie for her attire during a live show.
During the Your View program on television, a listener named Hauwa from Zamfara state called in to share her thoughts on the ongoing discussions by the presenters.
The situation escalated when the caller reprimanded Tope Mark-Odigie for her “inappropriate dressing” while praising two other OAPs, Morayo Afolabi-Brown and Nyma, for their outfits.
The caller alleged that Tope’s attire on the show was inappropriate and did not reflect the image of a mother and public figure. Morayo intervened and ended Hauwa’s call.
In response to the criticism, Tope asserted that she would dress as she sees fit as long as she adheres to the guidelines. She emphasized that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) is responsible for regulating her fashion choices, not individual callers.
The incident has sparked discussions online, with many commending the presenter for her composed response to Hauwa.

Isreal DMW Reminds Nigerians of Obasanjo’s 2004 Emergency Rule in Plateau State

Davido’s logistics manager, Isreal DMW, has highlighted a past state of emergency declaration, drawing a comparison to President Bola Tinubu’s recent action in Rivers State.
The Parallel Between 2004 and 2024
Amid widespread reactions to Tinubu’s suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, Isreal DMW shared a 2004 front-page newspaper clipping, recalling a similar event under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The 2004 headline highlighted how Obasanjo declared a state of emergency in Plateau State following deadly religious clashes, which reportedly resulted in the killing of over 600 Muslims in Yelwa, Plateau State.
Obasanjo’s Actions in Plateau State
Plateau State Governor Joshua Dariye was dismissed for failing to control the crisis, and the state legislature was suspended, losing all of its powers.
Is Tinubu’s Decision Justified?
Isreal DMW’s post suggests that Tinubu’s decision is not unprecedented, urging Nigerians to reflect on past leadership actions.
However, the suspension of a sitting governor and deputy remains a controversial issue, with many questioning its constitutionality and potential implications for democracy.

Portable Rejects Speed Darlington’s Concert Invite, Demands ₦20m Fee

Nigerian singer Portable criticized fellow artist Speed Darlington after the latter invited him to perform at his concert on April 13. Portable rejected the offer, stating that Speed Darlington was unrealistic about securing his performance.
Nigerian singer Habeeb Olalomi Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has sharply criticized fellow artist Speed Darlington after being invited to perform at his upcoming concert.
Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, had invited Portable to perform at his event scheduled for April 13. However, Portable dismissed the invitation, stating that Speed Darlington was only imagining things if he thought he could secure his performance.
In a fiery response, Portable accused the indigenous rapper of trying to use him for publicity to boost the show. He also took a jab at Speed Darlington’s reputation, insisting that they did not belong in the same category.
“I’m not a tout like you. I’m a hero, a superstar, a celebrity. I perform everywhere—I’ve performed in London, in America,” Portable declared.
Setting his conditions, the Zazu crooner demanded a staggering ₦20 million to perform at the concert. He also claimed that Speed Darlington had previously reached out to him on Instagram with an inflated offer of ₦500 million.
Portable concluded his remarks with a warning, emphasizing that he doesn’t associate with financially struggling individuals.
